News – Global DIY Summit 2017
Yet again, the Global DIY Summit, this time in Berlin proved a massive draw for the home improvement and garden industry with the World’s major suppliers, retailers, opinion formers, and media in attendance. Jointly hosted by the two leading European DIY professional organisations, EDRA (European DIY-Retail Association) and fediyma (European Federation of DIY Manufacturers), this year saw the first global representation of interest of DIY trade, ghin (Global Home Improvement Network).
Many BHETA members attended and BHETA itself, as in previous years, took exhibition space to enable members to present their product propositions to one of the most prestigious audiences in home improvement. BHETA members taking up the opportunity at the 2017 summit were QEP, Croydex, Gorilla Glue and Sugru.
Speakers at the summit covered not only the global economic and political status quo and its potential impact on the industry, but also the continuing shift away from Big Box retail. Speaker after speaker considered the wealth of new routes to market in home and garden including e- and mobile- commerce, specialty and pop-up stores, small formats and showrooms, with all the implications of providing memorable customer experience whether online or in store. The emergence of new start-up businesses as a consequence of digital was a big topic in itself and the need for traditional DIY companies to transform their business culture was a prevailing theme.
Next years’ Summit will take place in Barcelona in June.
