BHETA EOSC Committee update

One of the great strengths of BHETA is our five specialist committees comprising senior representatives from leading member companies who meet regularly to ensure that members receive best in class advice and support.

Last week, BHETA’s Environmental, Operations and Safety Committee (EOSC) held one of their quarterly meetings in Birmingham to discuss the complex technical and logistical issues around the supply and marketing of plugged electrical products e.g. small electrical appliances (kettles, toasters etc) through to power drills and battery powered products.

Pictured are some SEA stalwarts, including Chair, Stuart McKay from Groupe SEB and Keith Wilkinson and Paul Tooth from FKA Brands.

During the meeting, the group of technical managers discussed and agreed a common industry understanding regarding these topics:

LIAISON: insights from attended ICER, BEIS and JTA meetings.

SAFETY: updates on OPSS activity, Product Safety Review, UK’s Better Regulation Framework and General Safety Requirements.

OPERATIONAL: updates on UKCA/CE, RoHS charging regime and changes for GB RoHS, Packaging EPR, WEEE EPR, Plastic tax, Battery regulations, Import bans on materials.

ENVIRONMENT: Packaging EPR timelines, WEEE EPR, Kerbside collections, Scheme administration, ICER proposal, Plastic tax, Battery regulations, DTS. Concentration levels for POP’s, Compliance Fee Methodology and Compliance Fee WEEE Fund Spending panel and Net Zero.

The next meeting is likely to be held in December. Any members who sell electrical products who are interested in attending should contact the BHETA team at info@bheta.co.uk.
